Slotted Disc Brake Rotors Without question, brakes are the most powerful system on your vehicle.
Your factory brakes making money watching videos ample stopping power for your casual commute or the occasional unforeseen panic stop, but for the performance-minded enthusiast, an upgraded set of drilled or slotted rotors is the better choice.
So what exactly are the differences between drilled vs.
Here, we discuss the benefits and drawbacks of each, so you can make your own informed decision.
Smooth Rotors Smooth Brake Rotors A premium set of smooth rotors provides more than enough stopping power under normal driving conditions.
They provide the most surface area vs.
The absence of slots or drill holes check this out smooth rotors to maintain maximum structural integrity, making them suitable cross drilled and slotted brake rotors moderate track use when paired with performance brake pads and high-boiling point brake fluid.
There are several varieties available, from direct replacement to high-quality zinc-coated rotors, to fight off surface rust and maintain their like-new appearance for miles and miles.
Slotted Rotors Slotted Brake Rotors Slotted rotors, as the name implies, have grooves cut along the face of the rotor where the pad makes contact.
This is because under repeated heavy braking, as the temperature of your brake system increases, a layer of gas and dust forms between the pad and rotor from the material transfer caused by friction.
The slots in the rotor allow an escape route for the built-up gases.
The venting provided by slotted rotors is one of the main ways to combat brake fade and maintain consistent stopping power, lap after lap.
Cross Drilled Rotors Cross Drilled Brake Rotors Cross-drilled brake rotors look undeniably cool peeking out from behind a set of flashy wheels, and they keep huuuge casino and slots brakes the same way — cool.
In the early days of racing, drilled rotors were an effective way of venting the layer of gas and dust that inevitably builds up between asbestos brake pads and the rotor under repeated, hard braking.
However, as technology and brake pad materials have progressed, outgassing has become less and less of an issue.
These days, while they still look great and perform well, the drill holes are more for aesthetic reasons than anything else.
For performance driving, slotted rotors have become the preferred choice because cross drilled rotors are more prone to stress cracking under extreme use.
On the making money watching videos, however, the temperatures your brakes encounter never even cross drilled and slotted brake rotors close to the levels they do on the track.
While still not ideal for the abuse they would suffer on a racetrack i.
The heavier the vehicle, the more energy is needed to slow it to a safe and reliable stop.
Brakes convert kinetic energy motion into heat energy, and heavier vehicles invariably generate more heat in their braking systems.
So a rotor that runs cooler cross-drilled combined with one that maintains a clean contact surface between itself and the brake pad slottedwhen not pushed beyond its thermal threshold, can provide an extra bit of security and durability.
Remember, the name of the game is maintaining consistent stopping power every time you hit the brakes.
Choosing the Right Brake Rotor There are a few things to keep in mind when choosing cross drilled or slotted brake rotors.
It just comes down to personal preference of which style you cross drilled and slotted brake rotors />Their purpose is to dissipate heat and gases to combat brake fade making money watching videos provide consistent stops after prolonged abuse.
In order to take a sizeable chunk out of your stopping distances, a set of sticky tires and dedicated high performance brake pads are the recommended upgrades.
For track driving, slotted rotors are the preferred choice due to their ability to vent gases without weakening their structure.
For daily driving, any of the above provide more than enough stopping power.

Cross-Drilled And Slotted Braking produces gases, and cross drilling gives the gases a way to escape, thereby increasing contact pressure. In addition, a cross-drilled rotor now has more surface area, and thus cools down more quickly.

To cool the rotor, manufacturers use a vented rotor, not a cross-drilled or slotted rotor. cross-drilling puts holes perpendicular to the flow of air - they have no cooling effect whilst the wheel is turning. A cross-drilled or slotted rotor has less thermal mass and thus heats up faster and fades faster. Dust removal

This cuts down of the wear of the rotor.
When slotted rotors are used, a car will have a smoother and shorter stopping distance when braking than a drilled rotor due to its heavier weight.
Drilled Rotor Advantages Rotors which are cross drilled can expel more heat than a stock rotor but not as much as a slotted rotor.
The unique spacing of the drilled holes in the rotor gives the drilled rotor better weight distribution than a slotted rotor.
The lighter construction of the rotor means that it will stop later than slotted rotor due to its lighter weight.
Braking Distance Both slotted and drilled rotors result in a shorter stopping distance.
Aftermarket rotors are less prone to failure than stock rotors and carry their own warranties.

I personally installed these rotors on 2012 Audi Q5 that has had repetitive brake squealing noise issues, even after having Audi dealer trouble shoot and install new brakes and rotors.
StopTech rotors were installed on both front and back with PosiQuite Brake Pads.
Problem solved, no more squealing, also gained smooth and reliable braking.
Should have done this months ago and avoided the expensive dealership brake service.

Can definitely tell an increase in stopping power!
I installed these rotors with new ceramic pads and new calipers.
The whole installation took less time than I thought.
More time bleeding the calipers than anything.
After a short break in and a few miles of regular driving, I did a panic stop from 60 mph on a back road.
The results were impressive to say the least.
With barely a squeal, the ABS pumping hard and the front bumper almost dragging, the car stopped straight and true, far quicker than the original equipment and instilling confidence for driving in heavy traffic in future.

Drilled brake rotors, as the name implies, have holes drilled in them. Having a holes drilled into any of your brake parts may seem counterintuitive, especially the brake rotors -- after all, a rotor full of holes means that there's less surface area for the brake pads to grab and stop the car -- but there are a few reasons drilled rotors make.

These brakes and rotors work great.
Installed them myself with no problems.
Was so happy that these worked so good I bought the same kit for a different vehicle.
Will buy again in the future!
They arent dimpled but drilled rotors, better grip than the stock, fits perfectly with my 2013 tacoma.
Fast shipping, straight forward installation.
This complete set is a really nice price and it looks good.
The brakes stop really well, but for my first time putting brakes and rotors on there should have been directions to which pads and rotors goes to what side.
They fit well, look great, are solid, and delivery fast and trouble free - not sure what the other guy was saying about it not looking like that - no pretty power sport box I guess?
The stuff that matters was all right there and customer service answered any fitment questions right away.
All in all, very happy.
Direct fit, easy install, quiet when braking.
Hopefully these will keep the heat down on my wife's Traverse so the rotors won't warp before the pads are end of life.
Plenty of pad left but front end shake from the warped rotors.
Got about 50000 out of the OEM rotors.
Still early to rate the product, as I only making money watching videos a few hundred miles on the new Power Sport Rotors and Pads.
But--so far they're working great and I have no reluctance in recommending them.
Great value and fit perfectly.
Bought these with a little bit of hesitation due to price and uncertainty of fit and how well they work.
But, I am so glad I did.
These work way better than I hoped and look great too.
I have recommended them to all of my friends.

In either case, drilled and/or slotted brake rotors can’t be turned (resurfaced). So when they warp, or as soon as you put on a new set of pads, you will have to replace the rotors. (Most people resurface the rotors at each replacement of the pads.) At least with OEM-type rotors you can resurface them once or twice before having to replace them.
